I was recently invited to participate in a panel discussion on “The Bible and Homosexuality” at our local high school. The panel was hosted by the Gay/Straight Alliance student group.
The panel went well — I was the only one presenting the traditional biblical view. The other three on the panel: one affirming Methodist pastor, a gay pastor from the Metropolitan Community Church, and youth pastor who was a transgender man (biologically female). All in all, the conversation was courteous and covered a wide range of issues. The student audience of both gay and straight students was friendly and asked lots of great questions.
Immediately after the panel was over (which went overtime), I had the opportunity to speak further with students, who wanted clarification on my remarks or who asked additional questions.
All in all, it was an intense yet meaningful exchange. I presented the biblical gospel several times, both during the panel and in the after conversations — including the call to repent of homosexual practice and pursue God’s holiness.
